MEET WITH ROOKERY CREEK

FROM TAMAR VALLEY            TASMANIA

Our farm is located in the picturesque Tamar Valley, at the head of Rookery Creek from which the business takes its name. From the top of Corn Hill you can see right out over the Tamar Valley to Ben Lomond in the east and the Bass Strait to the north.  We are pretty sure our chickens have the best view of any chickens in Tasmania (maybe even the world).

This is Denis, Rookery Creek’s founder.  Denis is a first generation farmer, except that his grandparents were farmers in Europe before moving to Australia (in the way that everyone’s ancestors were farmers once if you go back far enough).  Farming was in his blood, it just skipped a generation. When Denis isn’t collecting eggs, he can be found with his muster dogs, of which there are too many. None of the dogs have won any awards.

Running alongside the Tamar River, the Tamar Valley stretches sixty kilometers north from the Tasmanian city of Launceston, up to the Bass Strait.
